Legal officers review and analyze laws, ordinances, rules and regulations to ensure that they are legally adopted. They then make recommendations on matters concerning the validity of existing laws, rules or regulations and suggest amendments. Job duties of a legal officer are defined broadly, but may include the following: provide advice to agency management on a variety of labor and employment issues; conduct investigations, inspections, audits and other activities associated with enforcement of the provisions of Federal labor law; provide litigation support in proceedings before administrative agencies; advise agency management on labor and employee relations issues such as collective bargaining; represent management and agency interests in grievance procedures by participating in formal negotiations and hearings
