Los Angeles Job Market

Before Los Angeles developed into the economic powerhouse that it is today, it was inhabited by various indigenous tribes. Between the 1600s and 1700s, both Portuguese and Spanish explorers surveyed the area, but it wasn’t until 1769 that explorer Gaspar de Portola established the first Spanish settlement, which grew by 1781 when 44 settlers built a farming village and named it “The Town of Our Lady the Queen of Angels of Porciúncula.” From there, the region just kept growing, with the expansion of Spanish missions initiated by Father Junipero Serra, and the completion of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1881, opening up Los Angeles to the rest of the United States. Today the city is home to Hollywood, modern-day pop culture, and world-renowned theme parks.
