Critical Care Nurses are responsible for ensuring the optimal care of critically ill patients suffering from a range of acute and chronic illnesses. In addition to nursing duties, you will also be responsible for administering life-saving treatments in crisis situations. Critical care nurses specialize in administering care to critically ill patients who have been stabilized yet require constant monitoring due to injuries (e.g., coronary artery disease, diabetes), mental health disorders (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder) or underlying diseases (e.g., cancer, AIDS). Patient conditions vary widely and can require a range of different treatments including mechanical ventilation, anti-coagulation therapy, and medications to manage symptoms of pain and/or anxiety.
